House Party
2021

“People are mostly layers of violence and tenderness wrapped like bulbs, and it is difficult to say what makes them onions or hyacinths.” – Eudora Welty

House Party sat 25.9.2021 at 20:00 / Jyväskylä Dance Festival

House Party is a relaxed evening planned and conceived by young people and the closing party of the Jyväskylä Dance Festival at the Cultural Centre Villa Rana.

House Party feature performers chosen by the young people themselves, from rappers to dancers. The evening’s program begins with a moped meet that ends up in Villa Rana’s yard, and during a cozy hanging out, you will experience various guided and participatory activities. The performers will be e.g. Interventions and performances consisting of West African dances by Lilqueensoso, Guided Body Meditation by the Helsinki-based Energpriests working group and rapper Napster from Jyväskylä. (NOTE, edit: due to the obstruction, instead of Napster, House Party is opened by another power woman from Jyväskylä – Rector!)

Villa Rana’s café serves drinks and snacks during the evening, DJ HileHile spins the records, and in the Open mic part you also have the opportunity to get up on stage and into the limelight!
So come along to see familiar or new faces and spend the evening in good company! The evening party is organized by Dance Company Off/Balance in cooperation with Jyväskylä Dance festival.

“Swifts don’t make these flights alone. They ascend as flocks every evening before singly drifting down, while in the morning they fly up alone and return to earth together. To orient themselves correctly, to make the right decisions, they need to pay attention not only to the cues of the world around them but also to one another.” – Helen Macdonald, Vesper Flights, 2020
