Hanging by a Thread 24 hours is an event produced by Roskakatos (eng. trash) -collective and Dance theatre Tsuumi.
Hanging by a Thread 24 hours is an immersive performance event that recycles performing arts. It is a traveling and site-specific event that evolves with each location. It constructs an installation exploring the barrier between humans and nature using discarded coffee makers, trash, tents, dance, music, and shadow puppetry for 24 hours in a concrete setting. The event plays with scale and contrasts between the organic and built environment. This experiential event, which reaches dystopian dimensions, invites the audience to step into the murky wetlands of the Finnish relationship with nature and ask themselves, “Am I part of nature?”
The event recycles previously premiered dance performances and creates entirely new works by layering them.
The event features recycled dance performances:
MARTHAS/ Dance theatre Tsuumi
We Called Her Bertha/ Dance theatre Tsuumi
Gritty B/ Dance theatre Tsuumi
Them two/ Dance Company Off/Balance
Glacier/ Sibelius High School
The audience is invited to explore the hidden spaces of the urban environment. To claim the wasteland by building sandcastles and stone paths. To listen to late-night radio while enjoying coffee from a thermos, crafting, and pedaling a stationary bike as night turns into morning.
Location
Kalasatama, under the Kulosaari bridge (Capellan puistotie)
