Choreographer Teemu Kyytinen (artistic director of Time of Dance -festival) has
choreographed Dance Company Off/Balance a dance piece in which dancers Terhi
Kuokkanen, Elina Häyrynen and Ulla Väätäinen throw themselves into
everchanging and virtuosic movement. The comprehensive work of art is completed
with a delicate and nuanced light design and scenography by Pekka Pitkänen.
Moving forward powerfully and in manic cycles Void tells about nothingness as a
state where one proceeds from thoughts to action. Nothingness appears both as
something desirable and ultimate as well as something to run away from. Void
addresses the subject concretely, expressively and through physical exhaustion.
Nothingness is full of energy.
”The entirety is condensed and deliberate package of frenzy, defiance and tranquility.”
NEWSPAPER HELSINGIN SANOMAT
“Hectic modern time recurs in the dancers’ movement language, and the
intensity of the performers – the whole work of art – was enormous.
– – –
The technical and expressional finesse of Off/Balance’s Terhi Kuokkanen and
Elina Häyrynen is already well-known and guest-performer Ulla Väätäinen was an equal member of the group.”
