Void2
2014

Void2 is a solo that transforms from space to space. Dancer Elina Häyrynen places
herself in the midst of audience thus bringing the theme of emptiness
from Void (2013) within touching distance. By fading the spatial boundary between
the audience and the performer the dancer is at the same time one of us but also
somebody that acts differently in the manners and qualities characteristic for this
piece.

“Swifts don’t make these flights alone. They ascend as flocks every evening before singly drifting down, while in the morning they fly up alone and return to earth together. To orient themselves correctly, to make the right decisions, they need to pay attention not only to the cues of the world around them but also to one another.” – Helen Macdonald, Vesper Flights, 2020

“The movement and presence of the dancers feels like tingling on the skin: one would like to touch and follow them with movement. The boundary between performers and the audience crumbles.

And then, suddenly, a scream begins, which becomes a furious roar. The atmosphere is electrified and gets a little confused as well. We are following a primary, shamanistic ritual.”
