Face-to-Face
2018

“An enchanting performance where the visual expression and movement overlap seamlessly.” NEWSPAPER KESKISUOMALAINEN

“An enchanting performance that interlace the graphical expression and movement seamlessly.”
NEWSPAPER KESKISUOMALAINEN

Face-to-Face introduces a view on the making process of one picture. The stage is
a vast paper canvas on where the picture is formed by movement imprints of three
performers: two dancers and a visual artist.

The six meters wide picture transforms scales familiar to us so that one can look
into the world of movements contained by a picture. The performance may then be
viewed both as a work of art as well as a dance performance.
In essential role are also the sound and rhythm of the drawing. With the musicians
of the Jyväskylä Symphony the tapping and soft scratching of the chalks become a
part of the composition and in the version with sound designer Tuuli Kyttälä sound
design the sound of drawing is elevated and layered to the next level.

Face-to-Face has been presented at both dance and visual arts events. The work has been included in the XXV Mänttä Art Week exhibition (2021) and Jyväskylä Dance -festival (2018).

“Did the work bring something unseen before to the field of dance? The answer is easy: it did! Something stunningly beautiful was born out of small movements. — Bright and touching experience.”
